Popular Fitness Trends in New York, NY
New York City is the epicenter of fitness, so the city offers a diverse mix of workout facilities that highlight different methods for losing fat and building muscle. Here are just a few of the hot trends you’ll notice.
In the last decade, the concept of group or team workouts has exploded thanks to Crossfit. It has become one of the hottest forms of exercise to sweep across the U.S. and with the televised Crossfit Games it’s only been gaining momentum.
You’ll find a number of dedicated Crossfit gyms in New York City that focus on intense group workouts in a team atmosphere to help you reach your goals.
But Crossfit isn’t your only team workout option. Places like Tone House offer extreme, athlete-based training in a group setting that will make you cry in front of your new gym buddy.
Self Defense/Martial Arts
Activities like self-defense and martial arts training can be just as aerobic as a typical session on the elliptical or treadmill.
This is why many people look to popular self-defense and martial arts styles like Krav Maga and Jiu Jitsu to not only improve their fighting skills, but to also kick their butt into shape. And, you will find many self-defense and martial arts training options in New York.
New York City is no different from other cities in that it hosts a huge number of commercial gyms that cater specifically to the casual gym-goer that wants nothing more than to spend 30 minutes to an hour on a treadmill or elliptical. Think Planet Fitness or L.A. Fitness.
But, there are also other cardio-focused gyms that offer things like dance cardio with resistance, circuit workouts that make you feel like you are in the middle of a video game, rowing classes, and trampoline workouts.
When it comes to making noob gains, you can’t achieve muscle growth without some form of strength training, and New York City still has plenty of gyms that cater to weightlifters.
You can find gyms like SoHo Strength Lab that encourage building strength above all else to raise your resting metabolic rate and create noticeable muscle definition (what I preach the most here at Noob Gains).
How Much Does a Personal Trainer Cost in New York, NY?
One of the first questions you’ll probably ask when hiring a personal trainer is
how much will it cost?
There are a lot of personal trainers in New York City, and their hourly rates depend on a few different things. Their experience level is a factor, as well as if they are independent or associated with a gym. And if they are working out of a gym, the location they work at also determines their rates.
You can hire a personal trainer in New York City for as low as $50 per hour however, but the average rate you will pay for an independent trainer is closer to $90 an hour. At high-end gyms, you could be looking at a rate of around $125 an hour or more.
However, to get a better deal, you can buy a training package that can get you a lower hourly rate for multiple sessions. Or, half-hour training rates will also be less expensive.
Hiring a personal trainer does require a financial investment up front, but don’t turn away from it just because you think you shouldn’t have to pay to get in shape. The investment can pay off because it can give you better, faster results.
The expert guidance of a personal trainer can be just what you need to go from your current body to your goal body in half the time.
